| A Young Person Challenges Her Drinking Pals To Find Out More About Alcohol Abuse And Alcoholism Heather drank on a usual basis with her drinking buddies. One Wednesday after school she began thinking about the amount of alcohol she consumed and the drinking behavior or her buddies. As a consequence of this, she politely asked all of her drinking buddies the following question: "what do we truly know about alcohol abuse, binge drinking, alcohol poisoning, and alcoholism? In other words, how much alcoholism and alcohol abuse information do we really know? For our age, we clearly drink in a hazardous manner and I am really beginning to wonder if we are headed for a life filled with alcohol-related difficulties down the road. I believe that we need to go on the Internet and discover all we can about binge drinking, alcoholism, alcohol abuse, and alcohol poisoning. And then if we have any nagging issues that we cannot understand after we complete our Internet research, we can take a hike to the student health center at the college and ask Nurse Grainger to explain things to us. It should not come as a great surprise that what Heather mentioned would set off a heated discussion. For example, her best friend since the seventh grade, Kelly, said that they are too young and too healthy to be concerned about abusive and careless drinking. Another friend named Trevor rationalized that since most teenagers drink there is no commonsensical reason why they should be any different. Another drinking friend named Lily said that all she wants to do is to have fun drinking with her friends. And still another friend named Theodore actually agreed with Heather primarily because both of his parents abused alcohol and both of his parents had a history of alcohol related issues. Heather openly mentioned to her buddies that she understood everything that they had stated but that involving oneself in irresponsible drinking at such a young age truly cannot be very healthy or conducive toward establishing a meaningful life. When a few of her drinking pals asked what kind of alcohol issues Heather was talking about, Heather articulated the following: alcohol-related problems like alcohol-related traffic accidents and fatalities, alcoholism, and alcohol poisoning (which can be fatal in some instances) and alcohol-related diseases such as cirrhosis of the liver, cancer, and heart disease. When Heather then emphasized that abusive and excessive drinking usually results in school, financial, relationship, and legal problems, some of her pals finally started to understand how wide-ranging and how destructive careless and excessive drinking can be. Without a doubt some of her classmates became more open and started to tell how these alcoholism and alcohol abuse effects had affected their parents and some of their friends. After articulating some of the alcoholism and alcohol abuse problems that are related to abusive and irresponsible drinking, most of her drinking friends seemed to like the idea about getting information on the Internet. They were, on the other hand, cautious about discussing their drinking behavior with anyone at school. As Heather heard this she thought to herself, "at least they are willing to find out more about their abusive and irresponsible drinking. This is a fantastic start."
