A Married Couple Becomes Agitated About Their Abusive And Irresponsible Drinking And Questions Whether They Exhibit Any Alcohol Addiction Signs

Angie and Lenny have been married for five years. They wanted to experience some fun and excitement before they decided to have some kids and so they consciously developed a very exciting social life.

The major problem, it needs to be pointed out, is that practically everything they do socially somehow includes drinking. For instance, all of the sporting events, family get-togethers, parties with friends, dinner engagements, and happy hours they attend are associated with drinking.

If they were moderate or responsible drinkers this wouldn't be such a big problem. Due to the fact they drink in an irresponsible manner, however, they are beginning to notice some definite alcohol-related problems in their lives.

As an illustration, a short time ago Lenny got his first DWI and has been taking time off from work because of alcohol-related health problems. Not only this, but Lenny's last two or three performance evaluations at his place of employment have been less than commendable and he has started to forget what he says or does while he drinks. As a final point, Lenny has been experiencing sleep-related problems and his family is starting to worry about his drinking difficulties.

Similarly, Angie has been feeling down in the dumps about life in general and to cope with this, she has been drinking more regularly than any time in the past year. What is more, Angie has been getting a lot of painful migraines and suffering from painful hangovers from drinking. As a final point, Angie has been feeling substantially less active in the morning, she has been showing up late for work, and she has been receiving some unkind criticism from her friends, relatives, family members, and coworkers about her excessive and abusive drinking.

One Wednesday evening while watching the television, Lenny and Angie accidentally discovered a documentary about alcohol facts and alcoholism facts in general and about the signs of alcoholism in particular. This television documentary was a real eye opener to Lenny and Angie because many of the alcohol facts that were highlighted appeared as if they were indisputably associated with more than a few of the alcohol related drinking problems Angie and Lenny had been experiencing.

With thoughts of the TV program still etched in her mind, Angie asked Lenny if some of the alcoholism signs they have been manifesting could mean that they are alcohol dependent or perhaps becoming dependent on alcohol. Lenny didn't know the answer to Angie's question and so he suggested that they make an appointment with one of the doctors at the local drug and alcohol abuse treatment center to find out more about the gravity of their drinking circumstances.

Ironically, even though their drinking behavior hadn't yet changed, it was clear to see that Angie and Lenny were at the very least addressing their drinking problems, they were willing to find out more about their drinking circumstances, and they were concerned about how they could significantly decrease or do away with the alcohol-related difficulties that had started to escalate.

When Lenny and Angie went to bed that night, they decided that the next afternoon, Lenny would call and make an appointment for both of them at the drug and alcohol abuse treatment clinic located in the middle of town. After they promised one another that they would do whatever it takes to deal with the drinking problems that had developed in their lives, they actually had the most energizing night's sleep they could recall in the last nine months.
